Travel to Macedonia, the hidden gem of Balkans – Sep ’09

Travel to Macedonia, the hidden gem of Balkans – Sep ’09

Here are some photos from my trip to Macedonia illustrated by Macedonian folk music. Enjoy! With absolutely pastoral landscapes, beautiful Byzantine churches, delicious paprika & tomatoes and kind people, Macedonia is a land of plenty. It’s unbelievable how many places are worth seeing in this little country. Still largely unexplored … for how long?

@GoranMak ‘little huts’ are at Ohrid lake, a couple of kilometers from Orid town heading towards Sveti Naum, the second place is Treskavec monastery near Prilep, Cheers!

This is Matka Canyon. Yep, it looks very remote, imagine it’s just 20 mins outside Skopje by car…

@burnthewitch I used Pece Atansovski ‘Ochvepolske oro’, Mace mace tech voda studean and Novo Selo ‘Baba dzurdzija’ as far as I remember. Try artists like Vaska Ilieva and Aleksander Sarievski. Also Anastasia that combines folk with modern music and featured in Mancevski’s masterpiece movie ‘Before the rain’ I’m sure Macedonians would provide you with more recommendations. My knowledge of their music is quite limited…
